The Africa Entrepreneurship Award 2018, powered by BMCE Bank of Africa, offers $1 million to be shared among African entrepreneurs with existing businesses or business ideas that win the award.
There are two categories: Innovation and Sports.
New technology, new business model or attempting to solve a problem that’s never been solved before in your region
Is it durable?
Is it multi-functional?
Is it environmentally sustainable?
Is it low cost?
Promotes integrity, perseverance and friendship to unite communities.
To what extent does it strengthen the economy?
To what extent does it improve the health of our youth?
To what extent does it reflect values, especially integrity?

3 rounds of online mentoring
Our mentors help define your market & put your scalability to the test.
Entrepreneurs in the top 50 are visited by the Award team.
Finalists benefit from a 3-day Boot Camp; then pitch their ideas to the Presidential Jury.
The jury decides the number of winners & how the $1 million award is shared.
You, the entrepreneur, must meet the following criteria to submit your business proposal:
You are an African citizen, & over 18 years of age.
Your idea or business is a for-profit.
You have a strategy for positive social impact.
Your idea or business includes a technological component.
Your idea or business is for Africa.
Your idea fits in one of this year’s categories.
Innovation: An idea or invention which is or can become a good or service that creates value for which customers will pay.
Ex: Using a new technology (something new to the industry), or using a new business model (a new way to deliver, collect, share), or solving a problem not solved before in your region (in all sectors).
Ineligible Businesses in Innovation:
Using an old technology
Using an old business model
Attempting to solve a problem already solved
Sports: An idea, prototype or startup business in the sports industry which is a Product (e.g. apparel, equipment), Production Method (e.g. supply chain), Service (education, health, spectator-experience, athlete-experience), Supplier (e.g. sources of materials, resources), Market (e.g. buyers), Media (e.g. promotion, information), Venue or Facility Management, or Health/Performance Improvement (Fitness Technology, Physical Training and Rehabilitation).
Ineligible Businesses in Sports:
Single Athlete to Compete
Businesses in which Sports is not the primary activity
