This a continuation of a series of articles from my book – 12 SIMPLE STRATEGIES TO BUILDING A GLOBAL BRAND. In the last published article, I wrote about how you can deploy your personal brand. Now, after deploying your brand, the next thing to do is to strive to make it a phenomenal brand. Dominate your brand territory by becoming an authority in your industry. To dominate your industry with your brand:
1. BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS
Make your brand appealing to people globally. Enlarge your capacity. Enlarge your coast and tent. Widen your horizon. Be elastic. Stretch yourself.
Create change. You need to be an active force in your field. You need to be changing, innovating, and making a significant contribution to your field at all times or else your brand will die out over time. Locate your role; find what you do best or what no one else is doing, and find ways to change the direction of your field/industry for the better.
Leverage on the resources of others:
– Other People’s Money – You may have to borrow to invest in opportunities;
– Other People’s Success – To acquire the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of successful people, invest on books, tapes, training disks and study materials of those who have succeeded in the areas you need to grow ;
– Other People’s Mistakes & Failures – Learn how to avoid the mistakes others have made;
– Other People’s Relationships – Leverage on the networks and contacts of those in your circle of influence.)
2. CREATE AN EXPERIENCE AROUND YOUR BRAND
Have a positive and appealing aura around your personal brand. Let everyone that come around you experience your distinctiveness. Make others feel special when they are around you.
Keep your brand fresh. Don’t let people see you as old-fashioned, boring or monotonous. Continue to include new features in your brand and keep taking new challenges.
3. BECOME A LEADER IN YOUR INDUSTRY
How far does your name go? As long as we cannot find a sense for your name, it’s just like a code. Be an authority in your chosen field. Be the best. Make your best better. Make achievements over time. Create Solutions for Major Problems in your industry.
4. BE A FRIEND OF THE PRESS
Speak up. Take any opportunity you can to give speeches or present your work. When in meetings or discussions with people, take the initiative and speak up for your ideas. People need to hear you, as well as see you. You need to be an active participant in the events around you and in your own life.
Just make sure that you also value and ask other people’s opinions too. They need to feel that they are a part of your success.
One major secret of greatness is the act of giving. To dominate the world around you with your brand therefore requires imbibing a lifestyle of giving. You can accomplish this in various ways. Get involved in community projects, reward your clients via discounts, bonanzas, free offers, brand loyalty incentives (coupons, gift vouchers, etc), and establish foundations to give to others. There is always a season of harvest for any seed we sow. Giving brings exponential multiplication.
6. MARKET YOUR BRAND
Now, you have a brand. Market it. Place a price on your brand. Promote and offer your brand to your targets using various marketing platforms.
7. MONETIZE YOUR BRAND
Who needs to know about your brand? Of these people, how many would be willing to pay money for your brand? Give attention to them. Carve a niche around the solution your brand creates. Let your personal branding strategy be precisely built around this niche. The Linda Ikeji Blog is good example of a brand that carved a niche around gossip, and eventually monetizes the brand after driving massive traffic to the brand’s site.
